Step 1: Place it before powering it
Set the new unit near the existing box and allow the cat to investigate it while it is inactive. Avoid running a loud cycle during the first inspection.
Step 2: Transfer familiar scent
Add a small amount of used litter to the new box so it smells familiar. Use only litter that the new machine's manufacturer says is compatible.
Step 3: Let the cat choose
Keep the original box available. Abruptly removing the familiar option can increase stress and create elimination problems elsewhere in the home.
Step 4: Introduce motion separately
Run a cleaning cycle while the cat is at a comfortable distance. Observe the reaction. Some cats need days or weeks before the movement stops being novel.
Step 5: Enable automation cautiously
Only enable automatic cycles after confirming the unit is assembled correctly, sensors work as described, and the cat is using the box comfortably.
Stop and reassess: If the cat strains, eliminates outside the box, avoids the area, or shows a sudden change in bathroom behavior, consult a veterinarian rather than treating the issue as simple stubbornness.
